REGIONAL WORK VISAS

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) 

 For people nominated by a State or Territory government or sponsored by an eligible family member to live and work in regional Australia.

 

Eligibility

  • be nominated to apply by a state or territory government agency, or an eligible relative must sponsor you
  • have an occupation on a relevant skilled occupation list
  • have a suitable skills assessment for the occupation
  • be invited to apply
  • satisfy the points test

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494) 

 for ​people sponsored by an employer in regional Australia.

Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191)​ from November 2022. ​​

To be eligible for permanent residence, holders of the new skilled regional provisional visas will need to show they have lived and worked in regional Australia while holding one of these visas.

 

Temporary skilled visas

Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482) – Sponsorship needed

Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489) – This visa is closed to new applications. The extended stay pathway and subsequent entrant pathway remain open to eligible applicants.

 

Permanent skilled visas

Regional Sponsor Migration Scheme (subclass 187) – Sponsorship needed. This visa is closed to new applications. The Temporary Residence Transition stream of the RSMS visa remains open to transitional 457 or Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) workers.
